Runeslingers: The Awakening Board Game Overview

Runeslingers: The Awakening Board Game Overview

Runeslingers: The Awakening Board Game is a customizable strategic card game for 2 players. Average playtime is 30-45 minutes. We enjoyed playing the prototype version of this game and look forward to seeing the finished product in the upcoming Kickstarter Campaign.

Summary of Game Play

In the Runeslingers: The Awakening board game the players are opposing Runeslingers, who sling runespells, trinkets, chants, and boons in an attempt to reduce the enemy Runeslinger’s power to zero. Runeslingers: The Awakening Romin

Runespells can deal damage to the opponents defense cards or directly to the enemy Runeslinger. There are various types of runespells and many that deal a lot of damage also have a high price for the slinging Runeslinger. As they require the slinger to pay in health or discarding cards off the top of their deck. The card discard cost can be crucial since a player loses 1 power each time they have to reshuffle.

Trinkets and Chants grant the Runeslinger altering effects and stay in play until they are defeated.

Boons offer protection from Ailments that are in play and prevent an opposing Runelsinger from stacking more on. Placing a Boon on top of an ailment essentially make that ailment invisible and as if it doesn’t exist. However, once the Boon is destroyed the Ailment is now active and can be stacked upon and any ongoing affects reactivate.

There are also cards that can answer attacks, they are called Shouts. These defense cards stop the action from happening and in if the card is a Mind Spike they also require the opposing Runeslinger to discard the card.

Runeslingers: The Awakening AilmentsAdditionally, there are six Ailments that can be applied to Runeslingers, which can really hinder progress and health until a protection Boon is applied. Most notably, these ailments stack and once they are at 4 or more have a lasting negative passive affect. Once a Runelsinger has 8 ailments they must remove them 8 at a time during the Ailments phase at the cost of 1 power.

Each Runeslinger begins the game with 5 power and loses the game once all power have been depleted. There are three ways to lose power; health reaches zero, deck requires reshuffling, and 8 ailments must be removed during the ailment phase.

All in All this is a very strategic game that requires careful planning, savviness, and  attention to detail as you battle for supremacy.
