Quests & Cannons: The Risen Islands Board Game Overview

Quests & Cannons gameplay Quests & Cannons: The Risen Islands Board Game Overview

Quests & Cannons: The Risen Islands Board Game is a fantasy adventure game for 1-6 players. Average playtime is 20-120 minutes and the complexity is 2.0. Our family truly enjoyed playing the prototype version of this game and look forward to backing the finished product in the upcoming Kickstarter Campaign.

Summary of Game Play

The Quests & Cannons board game allows players to use actions points to explore the islands, gather resources, collect loot, obtain map clues, perform ship upgrades, or fire on their rivals with cannons. There is a slight element of push your luck as your try to get the most cards, upgrade your ship, and return resources for points. This makes the game exciting and full of possibilities during each turn. The prototype game board was comprised of hex tiles that could be placed in multiple ways to create a whole new game play experience. Setup takes a little bit of time, but totally worth it. Although, Short Hop Games recently unveiled a beautiful game mat that can be used for quicker setup time. We are excited to see if that will be an add-on or included in the finalized game edition.

The map clues and quests add additional excitement to the game and allows players to gain loot and prosperity points. The player to reach the most prosperity by the end of the last round wins. Quests & Cannons Game Board

Yay or Nay?

This game contains many of our favorite aspects in a board game; lots of strategy, point salad, multiple victory paths, and variable player powers with the ability to upgrade.

This is definitely one of our favorite games we have played this year. The components were very high quality and the rule book was amazingly polished, while being, very easy to follow and understand. Which is very impressive for a prototype. The slotted player boards are equally impressive and much higher quality than most games. If you check out Short Hop Games on social media you will be able to see teasers with new characters and sneak peaks of the upcoming game. Plus, they are offering a free print and play version of the game on their website when you sign up with your email.
