Introduction to the Wild Serengeti Board Game:
In our opinion, Wild Serengeti Board Game is a very good game and actually one of our favorite new games. The game has card drafting, point salad, action drafting, pattern building, and variable player powers. This is a very thematic board game that is based on nature documentaries. The goal of the game is to score the most documentary points.
Wild Serengeti Game Overview
The components are great, which include, various wooden animal pieces, game board, and scene cards. The game also contains 8 player markers in 4 different colors. The various art on the scene cards contain a picture that explains what goals you need to achieve. The round tracker is the rock of ages with a toucan round marker to mark the rounds. The game has a selection of different animals including: lions, leopards, crocodiles, jackals, hyenas, vultures, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, gazelles, wildebeests, and finally zebras.
Actions: During a player’s turn they can perform 1 action. To perform an action you must pay 1 coin, however, you may pay 2 additional coins to get another action.
- The 1st action is Discover Carnivorous Predators which when you place a player maker on that space you choose from a selection of: lions, leopards, and crocodiles.
- The 2nd action is Discover Large Mammals which when you place a player marker on that space you choose from a selection of: elephants, rhinos, and giraffes.
- The 3rd action is Discover Scavengers which when you place a player marker on that space you choose from a selection of: hyenas, jackals, and vultures.
- The 4th action is Discover Migratory Herbivores Scavengers which when you place a player marker on that space you choose from a selection of: wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles.
- The 5th action is Swap Animal Positions when you do this action you swap positions of any 2 animals on the board, however, you cannot do this in the first round.
- The 6th action is Move Animal 1-3 Spaces You can move an animal 1 to 3 spaces, however, you cannot move them diagonally, and another thing you cannot do this in the first round.
- The 7th action is Take 1 Card from The Scene Pool You can take a card from the scene pool, and you may also spend additional coins to get more. 1 coin = 1 card from the scene pool.
- The 8th action is Redraft Scene Pool When you do this action you discard all 6 cards in the scene pool, and take 1 of them. You may also spend additional coins to get more cards 1 coin = 1 card.
Rounds: On the rock of ages you shuffle the award tiles which indicate the award ceremony once the round hits 4 and 6; also on rounds 4 and 6 you draw the great migration card. The great migration card has tiles on them which indicate which spaces animals need to be removed, also for 3 or less players only remove animals on the brown tiles if you’re playing a 4 player game remove animals on brown, and the blue tiles.
Game Experience:
Our family had an amazing experience! This board game has so much depth with the scene cards and the ever changing board. This game also has a really cool art style and theme; the wooden animal piece components are some of the best we have seen.
Final Thoughts:
Overall I rate this as a 9.7 board game. This is a must for your collection, if you like these type of board games! The pattern building combined with the constant moving board makes this game different almost every time. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes a mix of card drafting, point salad style game play!
