Check out the Unboxing of the Spartacus A Game of Blood and Treachery board game by Gale Force Nine. This game is for 3-4 players – ages 14+. Standard game play is approximately 120-180 minutes.
Spartacus is a great thematic, interactive gladiator game that we enjoyed playing. Each player plays a Dominus, head of the house, and competes for influence through arena battles. The game has many different mechanics: dice rolling for combat, auction, bluffing, negotiation, hand management, and variable player powers.
There are three main phases: Intrigue, Market, and Arena.
Intrigue phase consists of playing scheme and reaction cards to gain an advantage while bribing other players for assistance.
Market Phase is where players buy, sell, and trade Assets and bid for new assets at the auction. Assets consist of Gladiators, Slaves, Guards, and Equipment.
Arena Phase is where two Dominus Houses pit their chosen gladiator against another chosen fighter from another Dominus house. The winner gains Favor and Influence points,
Spartacus is a game that with more players gets interesting and competitive. The goal of the game is to earn the most influence points.
