Champions of Hara Game Overview:
In our opinion, Champions of Hara Board Game is a very good game and actually one of our favorite new games. We thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Champions of Hara has card drafting, skirmishes, variable player powers, and most importantly, a very well written rulebook that goes into depth on both verses and scenario modes. In fact, this rule book has a table of contents, index, and a glossary. Which makes it easy to locate anything you need to look up quickly.
Game Components:
The components and game board are amazing. In fact, the game board has two sides. One side is meant to be played when learning the game and the other side is a very colorful and beautiful representation of each world tile. Each character has their own character card and deck abilities that brings the game even more to life.
Gameplay Mechanics:
The mechanics of this game flow very smoothly and you really have to plan your turns to get the most out of the three card activations that are allotted each turn. I will say there is a lot of downtime between moves in this game. Simply due to the fact that each player has to put a lot of thought into which three cards they will activate; and many times they will also have items that give them free activations and actions.
The game really gets fun once you are able to obtain a few of the power up cards from your deck. These are obtained by reaching a certain level of energy of each color. Each deck has two power up cards for each color energy and an ultimate card that really gives you an edge. As you battle monsters you will receive energy and, in some cases, items that have powerful abilities.
This game has so many different elements that keep it interesting, during your adventure phase you can battle monsters, attempt to complete events, battle opponents, or close a rift. All which give you energy and occasionally items.
The dusk cards and world shift cards really shake up the game. The dusk cards are are drawn at the end of each dawn and the world shift cards are drawn at the end of each dusk. They increase the intensity of the game and can make or break you depending on what you encounter in your adventure phase and how well you plan your three activations. The game is played over 6 days, however, it is normally over in day 3 or 4.
Conclusion:
Champions of Hara is a push and pull type game that requires constant balancing between your health and spirit, while trying to gain energy to win the game. The person that obtains 10 of each of the three energy colors is the winner of the game.
All in All we would definitely recommend this game if you enjoy competitive game play that requires strategic planning and a little bit of luck thrown in.
